Beverly Hills is home to the world’s finest facial plastic surgeons. But even in a city full of accomplished rhinoplasty experts, Dr. Henry Chen has carved out a name for himself.

If you’re considering a revision rhinoplasty procedure, here’s why Dr. Chen might be the surgeon you’re looking for:

  • Elite Education and Training

Dr. Chen’s path began at the University of Colorado, where he trained in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

Here, he was named chief resident, a role he earned through a combination of dedication and exceptional clinical skills.

Following residency, Dr. Chen completed one of the country’s most competitive fellowships in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Only 40 surgeons nationwide are awarded this much-coveted spot each year.

Dr. Chen completed his fellowship in Albany, New York, at the following institutions:

    • The New England Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Center
    • Albany Medical Center

There, Dr. Chen trained under Dr. Edwin F. Williams III, a pioneering figure in the field and former president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).

Today, Dr. Chen is not only a practicing surgeon but also an active voice in his field.

He continues to push boundaries in the industry by conducting research, publishing scientific work, and regularly attending conferences to stay ahead of evolving techniques and technology.

Dr. Chen combines expert surgical skills with a deep commitment to patient safety, operating only in fully accredited, well-equipped medical centers staffed by experienced professionals.

Here’s where you’ll find Dr. Chen offering world-class care:

“What Should I Look for in a Beverly Hills Revision Rhinoplasty Specialist?”

Picking the right surgeon for your revision rhinoplasty is just as critical (if not more) as choosing to have a reconstructive or cosmetic procedure in the first place.

Experience, expertise, and attention to detail matter. Unfortunately, not every “expert” embodies these traits.

Sure, referrals or a few search results might help you start your revision rhinoplasty journey. But remember, your safety, appearance, and investment are all on the line.

If you want results that reflect your vision, choosing a proven and trusted rhinoplasty specialist like Dr. Chen makes a real difference.

To guide your decision, remember these 3 Cs: competence, compassion, and consistent results.

Competence

Here’s something many people don’t realize: There’s no legal requirement for surgeons to be trained in the specific procedures they offer.

This “loophole” has allowed some doctors with backgrounds in general surgery or unrelated fields to offer specialized procedures, like revision rhinoplasty.

However, revision rhinoplasty is a complex facial plastic and reconstructive procedure, often more complex than primary rhinoplasty.

As such, technical competence is a necessary aspect of this corrective procedure.

Thankfully, there’s a reliable way to verify if a physician is qualified to help you: Check for board certification.

Board certification is a strong indicator that your surgeon has the skills, training, and knowledge to deliver safe and quality rhinoplasty results.

Dr. Chen has met these standards and is double board-certified by:

  • The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Surgical procedures aren’t one-size-fits-all. Each part of the body has its own unique structure and requires a specific type of expertise.

Reshaping the nose, which is mostly made of bone and cartilage, requires a different kind of specialization than sculpting soft-tissue areas like the breast.

That’s why many competent surgeons focus on only a particular field. They refine and master surgical techniques and procedures.

For Dr. Chen, that field is facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, to which he has dedicated nearly 20 years of training and practice.

  • Five years in ENT (ear, nose, and throat) residency
  • One year in facial plastics fellowship
  • 13-year clinical practice

Dr. Chen: Qualified And Caring

“I did extensive research to correct my nose from a previous rhinoplasty that I had done in another county.

My nose was done by a plastic surgeon who didn’t specialize in [noses or faces]. I went to many doctors [who were only] meeting my minimum requirements of being a specialist of the nose and face with certifications.

I am so happy that I chose Dr. Chen based on his qualifications, but [mostly] by his charisma of caring for his patients and truly being present at every post-checkup…

Every day, I am happy with the results.

The same looks very natural. I can breathe very well, and no scar tissue [has formed], which is a great thing since I have thick skin.”

Consistent Results

Degrees, earned titles, and years of practice matter, but they’re only one part of the equation.

What ultimately proves a surgeon’s competence is the quality of outcomes their patients see in the mirror.

The ability to deliver consistent results—that’s what seals a surgeon’s reputation.

Dr. Chen’s training and credentials do speak volumes, but it’s his consistency in delivering exquisite, natural-looking outcomes that gives his patients the confidence to choose him.

You don’t have to take our word for it—Dr. Chen’s work with his rhinoplasty patients speaks for itself.

Check out the before and after photos in our patient gallery to see for yourself how he has helped transform people’s lives through revision rhinoplasty surgery.

You can also give our social media accounts a follow (Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook) to stay in the loop with ongoing stories of hope, healing, and transformation.

From heartfelt testimonials to consistent five-star reviews on Google, Vitals, RateMD, and Healthgrades, the message is clear:

Dr. Chen isn’t only capable of correcting bad nose jobs—he exceeds patient expectations.

Compassion

Some surgeons will fix your nose problems—and that’s it. They have the skills and experience, but they don’t make you feel seen.

Ask yourself: Does my surgeon—and their team—make me feel heard, respected, and genuinely cared for? Do they treat me as a person, not a mere case file?

At Chen Facial Plastic Surgery, we understand the emotional weight behind your choice to have revision surgery.

That’s why Dr. Chen starts the treatment process by listening to your story.

Right from the very beginning, he works closely with you to understand your goals, learn from your past procedures, and build a plan that’s actually aligned with your vision.

Dr. Chen: A Truly Skilled Surgeon But Also An Excellent Human

“Deciding to go with Dr. Chen for my revision rhinoplasty…was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made….

From my initial consultations to my pre-op to my post-op and follow-ups, Dr. Chen has been patient, informative, honest, and a true partner throughout the process.

I consulted [five] surgeons with the same level of education, credentials, experience, and expertise as Dr. Chen—but there was something very different about his energy and demeanor that allowed me to trust him to the highest degree.

He is genuinely kind, caring, and has a great sense of humor—Dr. Chen has real emotional intelligence.

I appreciate his candidness about what my issues were and what I could expect after the surgery. I’m so grateful to Dr. Chen, a truly skilled surgeon but also an excellent human.”

What Is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty, also known as secondary rhinoplasty, is a corrective surgical procedure that aims to improve the aesthetic and functional results of an initial rhinoplasty.

A study published in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery—Global Open journal listed the following reasons why patients consider surgical revision:

  • Preexisting respiratory functional and structural issues, such as nasal airway obstruction, have not been dealt with or have been worsened by initial rhinoplasty.
  • Nasal bridge problems, particularly when the nasal bone and sidewalls are too wide or deviated.
  • Pollybeak deformity, which occurs when a bump forms above the nasal tip following nose surgery
  • Nasal tip irregularities, such as unevenness, drooping, and bulging

Have you encountered any of these issues after a previous surgery? It doesn’t have to be the end of the story—there are ways to address them.

Through Dr. Chen’s precise and meticulous surgical approach, you may get the following benefits:

  • The best possible restoration of your nose, both in appearance and functionality
  • Balanced, natural-looking results with minimal recovery time
  • Improved body image, self-esteem, and mental well-being

“I highly recommend Dr. Chen. He did reconstruction surgery on my nose because I could no longer breathe at night.

I had surgery in the past, and the nose virtually collapsed as there was not enough cartilage left in my nose to support the passage of air.

His innovative approach to reconstruction worked beautifully, and now my nasal passages are clear, and it is easy for me to breathe again.

The best part is that my nose now looks great! He is also a very personable doctor.”

Common Rhinoplasty Errors

While most rhinoplasty patients are happy with their initial rhinoplasty results, nose procedures can still fall short of patients’ expectations.

Here are some common rhinoplasty mistakes that may require secondary rhinoplasty:

Excessive cartilage removal, causing the nose to collapse

Over- or underresection of the bump on the nasal bridge

Failure to stabilize nasal structures, leading to deviation and asymmetry

Excessive narrowing of the nose leading to breathing difficulties

A Message from
DR. HENRY CHEN

“Plastic surgery may change things on the outside, but when it is done tastefully, and the results are natural, the transformation inside the patient is truly magical.

I have performed thousands of surgeries, and seeing this transformation occur over and over never gets old. It is endlessly gratifying and fulfilling to help patients regain or improve their confidence.”

Who Is a Good Candidate for
Revision Rhinoplasty?

You may be an ideal candidate for revision rhinoplasty if you’re:

  • Unhappy with the aesthetic outcomes of your previous rhinoplasty
  • Experiencing persistent functional issues, such as nasal obstruction or breathing difficulties
  • Fully healed from your last nasal surgery
  • Free from complicating factors, such as nasal trauma and substance use
  • Realistic about what nasal features, function, and structures can be improved

Preparing for Your Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure

If you’ve been through a failed nose job, having another surgery can feel overwhelming, especially if you did not feel well-informed the first time.

At Chen Facial Plastic Surgery, we approach revision work with a deep respect for what you’ve already been through.

That’s why we don’t rush the process or treat patients like they’re just another revision case.

During the consultation, Dr. Chen takes the time to listen to your goals and examine your surgical history.

Then, he outlines a strategy based on the anatomy of your nose and other facial features.

If you want to include other procedures in your revision surgery, you can discuss your options with Dr. Chen.

For instance, many of our patients pair chin augmentation and rhinoplasty surgery, as the appearance of the chin can significantly influence the perception of the nose.

As part of your preparation, you may also be given tailored pre-operative guidelines, such as completing lab work and health forms.

How to Prepare for a Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure

Proper preparation can help ensure a smoother revision surgery and recovery. Here are some general steps to follow before your revision rhinoplasty:

Four weeks before surgery

  • Avoid smoking. Smoking loads your body with toxins that can slow down the healing process and increase your risk for infections post-surgery.

Two weeks before surgery

  • Discontinue all herbs, supplements, and medications that may increase bleeding risk. Check the full list of medications to avoid here.
  • Disclose all current medications—prescription or over-the-counter—to Dr. Chen during your consultation.
  • Use only acetaminophen (Tylenol) for any pain prior to surgery.
  • Complete a pre-operative history and physical (H&P). Your workup may include lab work, EKG (electrocardiogram), and chest X-ray, as indicated.
Your primary care provider must fill out the H&P form provided in your packet.
  • Submit the completed form by fax or mail and bring a copy to your pre-op appointment.
We require your completed documents at least two days prior to surgery. Otherwise, your procedure may be delayed.
To secure your surgery date, provide the name of your physician and the confirmed date of your pre-op visit no later than one week before surgery.
If we don’t receive these details, we may have to reschedule.

The night before surgery

  • You can expect a call from us—we’ll walk you through what to expect and answer any last-minute questions before the procedure.
  • We’ll confirm your surgery schedule in a separate message, so ensure we have all your contact numbers.
  • Arrange for transportation, as we don’t allow our patients to drive themselves home after surgery.
  • To help manage pain and other post-op complications, begin taking Arnica montana (available over the counter) two days before surgery, once daily.
  • Do not consume any liquids or food after 12:00AM on the night before your surgery.

The day of surgery

  • Avoid wearing any makeup, jewelry, or contact lenses.
  • Don’t use any hair products like gel or spray.
  • Wear something loose and easy to take off, preferably a jogging suit with buttons, snaps, or a zipper.
  • Choose low-heeled or flat shoes that are easy to slip on and off. No high heels.

The Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure

Undergoing revision rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills, CA can feel daunting, especially if you did not have a great experience with your initial surgery.

Knowing what to expect can help ease your fears and worries about your upcoming procedure.

Here’s how we’ll ensure you’re safe, comfortable, and well-cared for throughout the treatment process:

  1. Following your inquiry, our front office coordinator, Meghan, will contact you to confirm your scheduled visit.
You’ll also receive a welcome email detailing Dr. Chen’s philosophy, what to expect from our team, and our care approach.
To help you prepare, Emmy, our patient care coordinator, will follow up to arrange a pre-consultation session.
She’ll assist you through the entire journey—from your first visit to your post-op recovery.
  2. During the consultation, Dr. Chen will take the time to understand your functional and aesthetic goals, ensuring that your input is considered throughout the entire revision process.
Then, he’ll discuss your options step by step to ensure you’re fully informed. Here’s a brief overview of the two main surgical approaches to rhinoplasty:
Open rhinoplasty. During this procedure, Dr. Chen will make a cut across the columella (the tissue that bridges the nasal tip to the nasal base) in addition to making incisions inside the nose. This is the preferred approach for revision rhinoplasty as it gives unparalleled access and visibility to the entire nose, allowing complex anatomic issues to be corrected.
Closed rhinoplasty. During this surgery, Dr. Chen will make hidden incisions inside the nose. This approach tends to be used for less complex revision rhinoplasties.
  3. Our team will also capture standardized photographs and use digital imaging to give you a visual projection of possible outcomes.
You can also examine our patients’ before and after photos to help set expectations.
  4. After the consultation, Dr. Chen will craft an individualized treatment plan and address all your concerns.
Meanwhile, Emmy will stay with you to help you understand schedules, the costs, and the next steps.
  5. Before the day of your operation, you’ll be required to drop by our clinic for a pre-op visit to ensure you’re well-prepared for the procedure.
If you have concerns or questions at this stage, don’t worry—we’ll address all of them.
We want to ensure you’re well informed and confident about your upcoming revision rhinoplasty surgery.
  6. During revision surgery, you’ll be administered general anesthesia to induce a sleep-like state.
This way, you don’t feel pain while Dr. Chen makes small cuts inside your nose, reshapes nasal structures, and corrects anatomic issues leading to nasal obstruction.
Revision rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure which means you can go home the same day.
  7. Dr. Chen will meet with you the day after your revision rhinoplasty, either at our office or at your aftercare facility.
Emmy will also maintain regular contact during your first week to help monitor your progress. One week after the surgery, you may return to the office for suture removal and a wound check.
Final revision rhinoplasty results gradually take shape over 1-3 years as swelling subsides and the healing process continues.

Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure

What Happens During a Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Dr. Chen’s revision rhinoplasty procedure may involve the following steps:

1

Anesthesia:

Dr. Chen will perform revision rhinoplasty surgery while you’re under general anesthesia.

You’ll be asleep, so you won’t feel pain or discomfort during the procedure.

Throughout the surgery, Dr. Chen, his anesthesiologist, and the nursing staff will work together to ensure your comfort and safety.

2

Incisions:

Dr. Chen carefully makes the initial cuts to access the nasal structure. The rhinoplasty technique (open or closed rhinoplasty) determines where he’ll make those incisions:

  • For open rhinoplasty, Dr. Chen will make a minor cut at the base of your nose across the columella.
  • Then, he will separate your nasal bone and cartilage from the nasal skin.
  • This step reveals the septum and the bridge, giving Dr. Chen an excellent view of your nasal structures and access to your nasal anatomy.
  • For closed rhinoplasty, Dr. Chen will make small incisions inside the nose.
3

Revision Surgery:

Dr. Chen will carefully reshape and adjust the existing nasal structure to correct past issues and restore a more balanced, natural-looking appearance.

For example, in many revision cases, too much cartilage was taken out during the original procedure.

What’s left behind may not be strong enough to hold the structure, leading to collapse and breathing difficulties.

To restore both function and form, Dr. Chen often uses cartilage grafts to rebuild the internal support, resulting in a more stable outcome. These grafts may come from your body or can be from a premanufactured source.

If there are other structural issues, such as a deviated septum, Dr. Chen will address them to help improve airflow and breathing.

This step may involve performing a septoplasty, a procedure that realigns the wall dividing the nasal passages.

4

Closing the Incisions:

After reshaping and reinforcing the nasal structure, Dr. Chen will carefully close the incision with sutures and apply a protective dressing over your nose.

Recovery After Revision Rhinoplasty

Post-revision recovery differs from patient to patient, depending on several factors, such as your body’s natural response and the complexity of your surgery.

Some patients report major improvements within a few weeks, while for others, it may take several months before things settle.

Full results often take over a year to reveal themselves completely as swelling gradually subsides.

The good news? Dr. Chen’s meticulous surgical technique supports faster healing and reduces unnecessary downtime, so you can get back to your daily routine sooner than you might expect.

In most cases, patients feel ready to return to work within a week.

At Chen Facial Plastic Surgery, healing doesn’t stop at the operating table.

We stay closely involved with you during your recovery through regular follow-up appointments.

If you ever have concerns or just need a quick answer, Dr. Chen is always available—just a call or message away.

With personalized care, hands-on follow-through, and a commitment to minimal downtime, Dr. Chen will never make you feel alone on the road to your final results.

What Is the Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery?

After your revision surgery, we’ll move you to the recovery room. Your stay here depends on how your body reacts to the anesthesia.

But once you’re clinically stable, you can return home.

You’ll need someone to pick you up, as you’re not allowed to drive yourself home. You also can’t use rideshare or taxi services, so ensure that you’ve arranged private transportation before your surgery.

Full recovery takes time, but you can support your healing process. Follow these steps to recover well and prevent post-surgery complications:

  • Keep your nose dry and clean
  • Don’t insert anything inside your nose
  • Keep your head elevated when lying down
  • Apply cold compresses to your nose for 10 minutes, three times daily
  • Avoid any strenuous activity that could stress or injure your nose
  • Avoid any pressure, objects, or unnecessary contact with the operated area
  • Take pain relievers as directed
  • Stay hydrated

Above all, give yourself time. Healing from revision rhinoplasty is a gradual process.

During the first week, you’ll likely have a splint on your nose and some internal swelling, which can make breathing feel a bit restricted.

Once the splint comes off (usually around day seven), you’ll start to see the changes, though some puffiness will still be present.

From there, recovery shifts into a more gradual phase. Swelling continues to go down over the next several months, but the nose can take over a year or longer to fully settle into its new shape.

The refinement is subtle but ongoing—so patience and careful observance of aftercare instructions are vital to ensure the best possible outcome.

“When Can I Exercise After My Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure?”

It’s best to hold off on any strenuous physical activity for at least the first two weeks after surgery—unless Dr. Chen advises otherwise. Your body needs time to heal without added strain.

Because recovery varies from person to person, Dr. Chen creates a post-op plan tailored to your situation and your normal routine.

Following general aftercare instructions and personalized guidance can help prevent complications and support faster recovery.

Risks and Complications of Revision Rhinoplasty

Like other surgical procedures, revision rhinoplasty has risks. Fortunately, the overall rate of issues remains low, especially in the hands of a reputable surgeon like Dr. Chen.

With 1,500+ rhinoplasty and revision procedures performed, Dr. Chen knows how to spot and manage complications before they become problems.

That said, here are some of the most common risks to be aware of:

  • Bleeding: During revision surgery, small blood vessels in the nose may be damaged. That said, most patients experience only minor bleeding.
It’s also important to avoid taking blood-thinning medications and certain herbal supplements before surgery.
Prior to the procedure, Dr. Chen will discuss any substances you should stop using to minimize the risk of bleeding.
  • Reactions to Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically used when performing rhinoplasty procedures. While complications are rare, they can happen.
That’s why Dr. Chen works only with highly trained anesthesiologists to ensure every patient’s safety throughout the procedure.
  • Infection: Though rare due to the nose’s strong blood supply, infections can still occur. Warning signs include unusual swelling, fever, or foul-smelling discharge.
During surgery, Dr. Chen takes every precaution, from sterilization to antibiotic use, to prevent post-op infection.

Dr. Chen has also published multiple research papers in the field of nose surgery:

What Are the Risks and Complications Associated With Revision Rhinoplasty?

If you’re thinking about revision rhinoplasty, one of the most pressing questions on your mind may be, “Is it safe?” You’ve already gone through a bad nose surgery, and you don’t want the same mistakes repeated.

Revision rhinoplasty is an effective and generally safe procedure. However, it carries risks similar to primary rhinoplasty. The most common ones include bleeding, infection, and poor wound healing.

Thanks to modern surgical protocols, high-grade sterilization, and preventive antibiotics, infection rates remain low and well-controlled.

But no medical safeguard compares to choosing the right surgeon.

Dr. Henry Chen is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon with nearly two decades of experience.

He’s handled some of the most complex rhinoplasty revisions, including cases involving prior trauma, failed surgeries, or delicate structural repairs.

Beyond Beverly Hills, he also travels abroad to provide care in medically underserved communities, where safety and precision matter even more because there’s no room for error.

That same level of technical skill, care, and surgical discipline is what he brings to every patient in his private practice.

From pre-op planning to post-op healing, Dr. Chen has not only trained to manage complications but also built his reputation on preventing them.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Revision Rhinoplasty

What are the signs of a bad nose job?

Initial rhinoplasty doesn’t always lead to the desired outcome.

Sometimes, patients are left with results that don’t meet their expectations—or worse, cause new concerns.
Whether the issue is aesthetic or functional, it’s important to recognize what a bad nose job looks and feels like.

Here are some physical signs that suggest the need for revision surgery:

  • Very low nasal bridge: Your nose profile looks too hollowed out, and your nasal bridge is too low.
This often happens when a surgeon removes more bone and cartilage than necessary, especially if they’re not well-versed in nasal structure.
  • A pinched nose: If too much cartilage or nostril tissue near the outer edges of your nose is removed, or if your nose tip’s cartilage is overly reduced, it can result in a pinched nose.
This narrowing of the tip of the nose leads to breathing difficulties for the patient.
  • Wide nasal bridge: This may happen when the rhinoplasty surgeon fails to maintain the natural proportions (the nasal tip is a bit wider than the nasal bridge).
That balance should’ve been maintained, even if the nose was generally broad to begin with.
  • Tip irregularities: Deviation, irregularity, or asymmetry of the nasal tip is a common source of dissatisfaction after a rhinoplasty.
  • Upturned nose: This may be the result of an overly aggressive shortening of the nose.

A good sense of balance and aesthetics is a must-have for a rhinoplasty surgeon.

Dr. Chen has consistently shown both, delivering results that enhance appearance while also preserving the natural harmony of the face.

If you’re considering a revision rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills, start by consulting a trusted specialist like Dr. Chen.

How much does a nose job cost in Beverly Hills?

Primary rhinoplasty typically ranges from $10,000 to $15,000. Meanwhile, more complex revision surgeries can reach over $15,000.

Several considerations factor into the final price of a nose job in Beverly Hills, including:

  • The complexity of your revision case
  • Type of grafts used to rebuild the nose
  • Anesthesia and facility fees

But when you’re working with someone like Dr. Henry Chen, those costs align with what you receive:

Next-level care from a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon whose expertise, personalized approach, and proven track record make all the difference in achieving naturally exquisite results.

Even in a city known for elite standards—where excellence isn’t optional—Dr. Chen has earned a reputation few can match.

Who are the top surgeons for revision rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills?

These days, it’s easy to find surgeons who claim to be the best. However, real trust is earned through training, results, and patient experience.

Dr. Henry Chen has met all these standards exceptionally well.

He graduated magna cum laude from Rice University before earning his MD (doctor of medicine) from Baylor College of Medicine, followed by an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from Rice’s Jones Graduate School of Business.

This rare blend of clinical and strategic training reflects his commitment to the pursuit of excellence.

But rather than relying on credentials alone, Dr. Chen continued to advance his expertise through hands-on experience and careful, patient-centered care.

Over the years, his work has been recognized with several professional honors, including:

  • Gordon Award for Exceptional Customer Service and Patient Satisfaction
  • Southern California Super Doctor, 2020-2025
